Bulgarian born Christo and Moroccan born Jeanne-Claude were a married couple who created large scale environmental art together.
In 1998 Christo and Jeanne-Claude wrapped 178 trees in Berower Park near Basel on the German border. The project took 9 days to complete and used 592,015 square feet of woven polyester fabric
The purpose of their art, they contend, is simply to create new ways of seeing familiar landscapes. Art critic David Bourdon has described Christo’s wrappings as a “revelation through concealment.”
All materials used in this project were recycled after they were taken down.
